The Wearing of the Green
The Federal City Brass Band, founded in 2002, accurately recreates the
sound and appearance of a Union Army regimental brass band of the 1860s.
The instruments and mouthpieces used by The Federal City Brass Band are
members.  Sources of the music the band plays include original band journals
and sheet music of the Civil War era.  The uniforms worn by bandsmen are
reproductions based on originals and made from the closest comparable wool
and cotton fabrics, in some cases using vegetable dyes and original recipes
from 19th century mills.

Visit our
About the Band page for more information on the band.
For information on individual musicians, see
Band Member Bios.
The 26th North Carolina Regimental Band
The Federal City Brass Band also performs as the 26th North Carolina Regimental Band.  The band made its debut
performance as the 26th North Carolina in 2005 in Lynchburg, VA.   In 2005 and 2007 the 26th NC Regimental Band
traveled to North Carolina for events related to the history of the 26th NC and the original band.  2008 was a busy year for
the 26th NC Regimental Band as we marked the 145th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, in which the 26th North
Carolina regiment played a prominent role, with two back-to-back battle reenactments and other special concerts.  In
August 2009 the 26th NC Regimental Band returned to Lynchburg to participate in a filming of the Battle of Lynchburg for
Historic Sandusky mansion.  Watch for more performances in North Carolina in 2010!

The Federal City Brass Band is pleased to announce the formation of The National Association for Civil War Brass
Music, Inc.
(NACWBM), a non-profit organization in the state of Maryland.

The mission of the National Association for Civil War Brass Music, Inc. (NACWBM) is to collect, preserve and make
available for research and performance both the music and the instruments of American brass bands of the mid-19th
century, particularly military bands and bugles of the American Civil War, and to present such music in public performances
for the purpose of educating the general public and furthering public awareness and understanding of this important part of
our American cultural heritage.

The website for the National Association for Civil War Brass Music Inc., is located at
www.nationalcivilwarbrassmusic.org.
The Federal City Brass Band and 26th North Carolina Regimental Band pages will be moving to that site as well over the
next few weeks, and more information will be posted about opportunities for membership in the NACWBM.  Memberships
and renewals for 2010 are now being accepted!
