Brass Band Journal The Firth Pond Publishers
23 pieces for Brass Band

In 1853 Firth, Pond and Company of New York began the publication of its Brass Band Journal, probably the first American publication of saxhorn pieces. The longevity of these attractive compositions and arrangements by G. W. E. Friederich is attested to by the fact that they were still being offered for sale in the 1870s. Friederich was an intensely active composer and arranger for Firth, Pond & Co. in the mid-1850s, producing the twenty-four pieces that make up the Brass Band Journal, another twenty-four arrangements of pieces for social orchestra, and miscellaneous small works. His name disappears as suddenly as it appears with the publication of the quickstep.

Although there are 24 pieces listed here, one is missing from the original collection.
The selections are scored for:
1st E Flat Saxhorn
2nd E Flat Saxhorn
1st B Flat Alto Saxhorn (Treble Clef)
2nd B Flat Alto Saxhorn (Treble Clef)
1st Eb Tenor Saxhorn
2st Eb Tenor Saxhorn
Baritone
Basso 1
Basso 2
Trumpet in E Flat
Small Drum
Bass Drum

Note that the Bb Alto parts can be played by Tenor Horns and the Eb Tenor Horns can be played by Alto Horns.

These are high resolution scans taken from originals. They print out at 8 1/2 by 11 landscaped.

A great collection of historic brass music for any band or researcher.
